General Advisory

  • In view of the rainfall forecast, farmers are advised to check the rainfall forecast and weather warnings before pesticide spray or fertilizer application. Ensure adequate drainage in all crop fields to prevent waterlogging. Clear and deepen drainage channels around crop fields, orchards and greenhouses. Clean basins around fruit trees to avoid root infections. If crops are mature, harvest immediately and store in a dry, ventilated place. Staking/support for tall and fragile crops like banana, papaya, cucumber, bottle gourd, pumpkin, etc. to prevent lodging. Avoid intercultural operations like weeding or soil disturbance during and immediately after rain. Mulch (straw, leaves, or plastic) around horticultural plants to reduce erosion and retain soil structure. Move livestock to higher, dry ground and ensure clean drinking water supply. Strengthen protective structures like greenhouses and net houses. Provide adequate drinking water for animals. Ensure proper ventilation in livestock and poultry sheds.
