How NaPanta Collects and Verifies Its Data

NaPanta has published agricultural market and input data for Indian farmers since 2017. This page explains where each dataset comes from, how often it changes, and how to get an error corrected.

Mandi prices

Prices are the daily reports of Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) - the government-regulated wholesale mandis - covering 3,200+ markets and 370+ commodities. For every market, commodity and variety we show the minimum, modal (most-traded) and maximum price in rupees per quintal on the date the market reported. Markets do not report every day; when a market has not reported, we show its most recent report and label the date clearly rather than estimating.

State-wide pages summarise the latest report from each market. Headline averages use only reports from the last 14 days so an old price cannot stand in for today's.

Dealers, laboratories and cold storages

Fertilizer, seed and pesticide dealer listings are compiled from state licensing records and NaPanta's own field verification. On this site a listing shows the dealer's name, locality and address, and whether the dealer is Licensed (a valid licence is on record) and Verified (confirmed by our team). Phone numbers and licence details are personal business data and are shown only to NaPanta app users, one dealer at a time, so that dealers are contacted by farmers and not harvested in bulk. Soil and seed testing laboratory and cold storage directories come from public agricultural department records.

If a figure or listing is wrong, tell us through the contact page with the page link. Price data is corrected at source when the APMC issues a revision; directory corrections are applied after verification, normally within a week.

Where does NaPanta get mandi price data?

Mandi prices come from Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) daily market reports — the official records that every licensed wholesale market submits. NaPanta receives data from 3,200+ markets covering 370+ commodities across all states.

How often are mandi prices updated on NaPanta?

Prices are refreshed every hour as APMC reports arrive. Most markets report once per trading day. NaPanta shows both the price and the report date so you can immediately see if a price is from today or an earlier session.

Why don't all markets show prices every day?

APMCs do not report on non-trading days (market holidays, weekends for some mandis). When a market has not reported, NaPanta shows the most recent report with the date clearly labelled rather than estimating or interpolating a price.

How are dealer listings verified?

Dealer listings come from state licensing records. A listing marked 'Licensed' means a valid licence is on record. A 'Verified' badge means NaPanta's team has additionally confirmed the listing through a direct check. Phone numbers are only visible in the app, one at a time, to protect dealers from bulk harvesting.

How do I report a data error on NaPanta?

Use the contact page and include the page URL, the incorrect value, and the correct value if you know it. Price errors are corrected when the APMC issues a revision; directory corrections are applied after verification, normally within a week.
