  • Remove the plastic bandage attached to the joint if it is attached.
  • After planting, the cuttings should be supported by a bamboo stick.
  • In order to planting Alphonso variety, 10 to 15% grafts of Keshar, Ratna, Sindhu or Goa Mankur should be planted along with Alphonso variety to increase pollination and yield.

Paddy

Nursery Management

  • Considering possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall at most of the places during next five days.
  • In order not to damage the newly established paddy nursery seedling due to excess rain water, arrangements should be made to drain the excess water by digging furrows on all four sides of the nursery beds.
  • Farmers those who are 15 days after sowing should apply the second dose of N fertilizer to the nursery at 1 kg Urea per R area immediately after the heavy rain subsides and when the intensity of rain is less and at rain attenuation.
  • If the seedlings in the nursery turn yellow due to heavy rains in such places, spray 1% urea (10 gm per liter) after the heavy rain subsides and when the intensity of rain is less and at rain attenuation.
  • The seedlings become ready for transplanting in approximately 12 to 15 days.
  • Due to the high density of seedlings, weed infestation is minimal; however, if weeds do appear, they should be removed by hand.
  • After 20 to 21 days transplant 12 to 15 cm tall and 5 to 6 leafed seedlings.
  • For mild varieties, paddy should be transplanted at a spacing of 15 x 15 cm.
  • Planting should be straight and shallow 2.5 to 3.5 cm deep.
  • Shallow planting makes tillers better.
  • Plant 2 to 3 seedlings in one hill and only one seedling in one hill for hybrid rice.

LIVE STOCK

Animal Husbandry

  • If water accumulates due to heavy rains, flies and mosquitoes etc.
  • There is a possibility of insect infestation.
  • Protect the animals from rains and cold winds.
  • Do not allow to stagnate water in animal shed.
  • Pits in cattle shed should be filled with soil.

Poultry

  • Moderate to heavy rainfall are likely to occur at most places in Sindhudurg district between 01st to 05th July, 2026, Keeping in view the possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorm, the shed should be covered with cloth from outside.

Coconut

Fungal diseases

  • Newly planted coconut orchards are prone to fungal diseases such as bud rot due to increase in humidity during the rainy season.
  • In this, the sprout of palms rots.
  • As a preventive measure against the disease, 1% Bordeaux mixture or 0.25% COC @ 25 gm. Per 10 liter of water should be applied on the stems near the tree shoots by looking rainfall forecast.

Arecanut

Fertilizer Management

  • The first installment of fertilizer to arecanut should be given in August-September. The first installment should be 1 ghamela of manure or compost + 12 kg green manure + 160 g urea + 500 g single super phosphate + 125 g murate of potash.
  • Fertilizers should be given as soon as possible. Adequate moisture should be ensured in the soil at the time of fertilizer application.

Fungal diseases

  • Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated of fruit drop during the rainy season and due to the increase in humidity in the betel nut orchard.
  • This fungal disease occurs on the stalks of the fruit and causes a large amount of rot in the fruit.
  • To control the fungal disease of fruit drop, before the onset of rains, diseased stocks, and dried leaves should be collected and destroyed and 1% Bordeaux mixture should be sprayed in the leaf by looking rainfall forecast.
  • After that 3 to 4 sprays should be done at intervals of one month.

Finger Millet

Sowing

  • Considering possibility of moderate rainfall at most of the places during next five days in the Sindhudurg district, farmers should start sowing of kharif finger millet.
  • Land should be well prepared by ploughing on selected area for nursery.
  • Apply 250 kg of decomposed manure per R area on the soil.
  • After that, taking into account the slope of the soil, make raised bed of 120 cm width at the bottom, 90 cm width at the top, 8 to 10 cm height and appropriate lengths depending on the slope land.
  • For proper drainage of water, a distance of 30 cm should be maintained between the two beds.
  • Nurseries should be set up on an area of one R for transplanting in 10 R area.
  • Apply 1 kg urea fertilizer at the time of sowing.
  • Before sowing, apply fungicide Thirum at the rate of 2.5 gm per 1 kg seed.
  • Sow the seed in a row keeping a distance of 10 cm between the two rows.
  • Sowing should be done optimum and shallowly.
  • Seeds should be well covered with soil.
  • 500 to 600 gms of seed is sufficient for planting on 10 R area.
  • In view of the medium-range weather forecast predicting moderate rainfall in most parts of Sindhudurg district over the next five days, any excess water should be drained away if the finger millet crop has germinated.

Groundnut

Seed treatment

  • Considering possibility of moderate rainfall at most of the places during next five days in the Sindhudurg district, farmers should start sowing of kharif groundnut.
  • Use varieties like “Konkan Bhuratn” recommended by Dr. B.S. Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli for Konkan region.
  • Use 100 to 125 kg seeds per hectare.
  • Seed treatment with Thiram @ 3 gm/kg of seed is advocated against wilt disease in groundnut.
  • In addition, 20 g of Rhizobium and 50 g of Phosphorus soluble bacterial culture per kg of seed should be treated in this manner.
  • Sowing of erect varieties should be done at a distance of 30 x 15 cm and sowing of semi-spreading and spreading varieties should be done at a distance of 45 x 15 cm by token method.
  • For cultivation of groundnut on transparent polythene mulch, plough the soil after harvest of kharif rice when it is at field capacity.
  • Incorporate 100 to 150 kg/ guntha FYM or compost at the time of ploughing.
  • Prepare raised bed of a top width of 60 cm and 5-7 cm height leaving 30 cm distance on either side of bed.
  • Before sowing apply fertilizer of 1 kg urea, 6 kg SSP and 1 kg MOP per Gunther area before sowing in soil.
  • For control of weeds, apply Butachlor @ 50 ml per 10 liter of water before sowing on wet raised bed.
  • After herbicide application, spread transparent polythene sheet on to bed.
  • Hole can be made at a 20cm distance from the center of mulch.
  • Plant to plant distance maintains is 10cm. dibbling the seeds at 3-4 cm depth.
  • Before sowing, treat the seed with Thiram fungicide @3 gm/kg of seeds After that treat the seed with Rhizobium biofertilizers @ 20 gms and PSB @50 gms per kg of seed and dry in shed one hours before sowing.

Turmeric

Seedling

  • Considering the possibility of moderate rains in the next five days, arrangements should be made to drain excess water from the crop so that the newly grown turmeric crop is not damaged by excess rain water.
  • Tuber flies are more likely to appear in turmeric crop in the early period after planting.
  • For this, it is possible to control the pest by managing it from the very beginning.
  • For control of tuber fly, dry fish should be moistened in a plastic container and placed in 4 to 5 places at a height of 4 to 5 feet in the field.
  • The female of the tuber fly is attracted to this trap and lays her eggs there.
  • Generally, after 4 to 5 days such dry fish should be burnt and destroyed.

Cucumber

Precautionary Measures

  • There is possibility for incidence of fruit fly on fruits of cucurbitaceous crops.
  • For effective control of fruit fly, install cue lure ‘Rakshak’ trap @ 2 nos. per acre.

Cashew

New plantation

  • Given the likelihood of moderate rain in few places of Sindhudurg district over the next five days and the rainfall recorded in the last four days, new cashew plantation activities should be undertaken only after considering the weather forecast.
  • While planting, cut the plastic bag with a knife or blade and remove it separately.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that the soil around grafts does not burst, otherwise there is a possibility of wilting of grafts.
  • The sprout that comes under the joints should be removed from time to time.
  • The plastic strip on the joints of the grafts should also be removed.
  • Given the likelihood of gusty winds in most parts of the district on June 27, 2026, newly planted cashew grafts and those up to approximately two years old should be supported with bamboo stakes to prevent them from toppling over during the windy conditions.
  • Newly planted cashew grafts are more likely to die if heavy rains cause water logging in the newly planted area.
  • In such cases excess water should be drained from the newly planted cashewnut area.

Vegetables

Shoot and fruit borer

  • Eggplant and Okra crop is likely to be affected by shoot and fruit borer.
  • The worm damages the inner side of the branches.
  • This causes the branches to dry up. Also eats the leaves and eats the fruits inside.
  • For control, the crop should be monitored and infested shoots and fruits should be collected and destroyed.
  • If necessary, 25% EC Cyparmethrin 3 ml or 5% EC Lambda cyhalothrin 6 ml per 10 liters water should be sprayed.
  • Also “Whitluar” odor traps should be installed at the rate of 4 to 6 per acre for surveying of shoot and fruit borer.
