Frequently Asked Questions

What is PM-KUSUM and who can apply?

PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan) subsidises solar pumps for agricultural irrigation. Individual farmers, cooperatives, panchayats, and Water User Associations with a water source on their land can apply. The scheme replaces diesel pumps with solar-powered ones at 60% subsidy (30% central + 30% state).

What is the PM-KUSUM subsidy amount?

PM-KUSUM provides a 60% subsidy — 30% from the central government and 30% from the state government. The farmer pays the remaining 40% of the benchmark cost. Several states offer additional subsidies, reducing the farmer share further. For a 3HP pump, the benchmark cost is around ₹1.5 lakh; the farmer's 40% share would be approximately ₹60,000.

What pump capacities are available under PM-KUSUM?

PM-KUSUM Component B covers standalone off-grid solar pumps of 2HP to 10HP capacity. The appropriate capacity depends on your borewell yield, crop type, and irrigated area. The empanelled vendor or DISCOM engineer recommends the right capacity during the site survey.

How long is the PM-KUSUM solar pump warranty?

Solar panels carry a 25-year performance warranty and a minimum 5-year product warranty. The pump and motor set has a minimum 5-year comprehensive warranty. The vendor provides an annual maintenance contract (AMC) as part of the installation.

Where do I apply for PM-KUSUM in my state?

Applications are submitted on the state-level PM-KUSUM portal operated by the state DISCOM or renewable energy department. Visit mnre.gov.in for state-wise portal links. You can also apply at your district DISCOM office or through the Common Service Centre (CSC).
